Dr. Flora Matheson
Dr. Flora Matheson is a medical sociologist who applies a gender lens to her work to improve treatment for mental health and addiction. She is particularly interested in:
Improving the health of people in prison by looking at screening and treatment for traumatic brain injury and exploring experiences of trauma.
Improving the correctional system to ensure people in prison have access to treatment for mental health problems and drug and alcohol addiction.
Exploring and addressing problem gambling, in particular among people facing homelessness, mental health problems and/or drug and alcohol addiction.
Dr. Matheson is a Scientist with the Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael’s Hospital and with the Mental Health and Addictions Program at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. She is an Associate Professor with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Centre for Criminology & Socio-legal Studies, University of Toronto.
